As Carl Phillips writes, "it's a human need to give shapelessness a form." This course will provide tools for poets to give form to the shapeless, that is, to develop and deepen their relationship to their own writing practice from start to finish. We'll take an in-depth look at the craft elements that make poems poems, produce first drafts through generative and associative writing exercises, and explore revision techniques that highlight the inextricable relationship between form and content in poetry.
