Grief and Rage and Beauty: A Convergence | Led by Marcelo Hernandez Castillo
“After all, beauty has only three possible endings, and only one of them is bearable,” said the poet Larry Levis. What does grief have to say about beauty? What does beauty have to say about rage? And what are any of these without the others? As difficult as it may seem to imagine the possibility of beauty not simply in the wake of, but alongside unbearable grief and unbearable rage, this three-week poetry workshop with Marcelo Hernandez Castillo will guide participants of all ranges of experience to inhabit and speak from the tenuous landscape where grief, rage, and beauty converge. Through discussions on craft and generative writing exercises, participants will be encouraged to experiment with various styles and textures of emotional expression and have the opportunity to share their writing in a workshop setting.
