It can be hard to think about the difficult material of our lives, much less write a poem about it. How can we write about our grief, loss, sadness, or difficulties? One way is to literally give it a shape or form that can guide us. In this workshop, we will explore the abecedarian and learn strategies for infusing it with our own singular experiences and voice. Through the work and art of poetry, we can transform the difficult material of our lives into something else: poetry. It can be liberating. Along these lines, bring an idea or two that you would like to write about. We will read contemporary abecedarians, write our own, and receive feedback. Participants will leave with an abecedarian and strategies to write more.
